Gas furnace features

People often wonder which essential features of a gas furnace are. Learn more about how to determine what size furnace you need
Variable-Speed Blowers
These adjust the rate air is delivered when less heat is needed. That produces fewer drafts, make less noise and uncomfortable swings in temperature.
Variable Heat Output
This feature combines with the variable-speed blower to increase efficiency and comfort by automatically varying the amount of heat the furnace delivers, usually between two levels. The furnace can thus deliver heat more continuously than could one with a fixed heat output.

Air Filtration
With an electrostatic filter uses an electrical charge to help trap particles, or a high-efficiency particulate-arresting (HEPA- For more visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA) filter can reduce the amount of dust blown through the heating system. That might help people with asthma or other chronic lung diseases.

Ignition System
The ignition system creates a spark to ignite the gas. Furnaces have traditionally been ignited by a pilot light—a continuous flame that lights the burners, awaiting the next command to ignite the burners. Nowaday, these traditionally furnaces are replaced with intermittent, direct spark or hot-surface ignition. Today, there are two major types in furnaces: silicon carbide igniters and nitride hot surface ignitors. That increases efficiency and is usually reflected in a furnace's higher AFUE rating.
