Recharging refrigerant or fixing the leak should be done by certified HVAC technicians. If your window air conditioning unit stops blowing cold air but other regard is running properly. You changed the filters, keep it cleaned and had a smart thermostat, but air conditioners might also need to recharge as well.
Depending on the local laws, you might be required to get licensed to use of refrigerants or with the inner working of an AC.
Step 1 - Unplug the power
Removing the plug to ensure safety for opening up the machinery and inspect inside things
Step 2 - Open the AC
Ask the owner for the proper AC opening methods. There are some units can be opened from front ends out of place with a screwdriver
Step 3 - Check for leaks
Check carefully for any signs of leakage, fix them or call a professional to do that.
For leak repair, soldering a bad joint or any place the leak is the most common.
Step 4 - Attach the service valve to the compressor part
Locate the compressor and the two lines coming off it. Take the valve from the kit and attach it to compressor line.
Step 5 - Attach the service valve to the Freon source
After you checked the leaks and valve was installed, the unit is ready for refrigerant
R410a is a common Freon for most AC today. Don’t neglect the serve tag.
Step 6- Charge the unit
Everything is inspected and connected tightly and properly, you need to connect Freon tak to AC via the valve and tap, then plug in AC and power it on at highest setting.
However, you should note that cold isn’t like fire, you don’t instantly feel the pain, you can expose yourself long enough to do damage before you realize it.
