Cost of Freon for air conditioning

Freon is common refrigerant brand for air conditioning, it is a colorless gas and is known as R-22.
The air conditioning use refrigerant to move heat out from inside your home to outdoor. Over the past few year, prices for R-22 have definitely risen. Some companies quote from $35 to 175$ per pound. In order to show a correctly price, I often go to Amazon and E-bay to check the price. The price on R-22 is about $ 500- $650.
Recharge-AC-with-Freon.jpg
How many pounds of Freon or Refrigerant for an Air Conditioning?
The standard amounts of Freon or refrigerant for an unit can be estimated in the 2-4 pounds per ton of cooling for your system.
For example: your three ton air conditioning unit need to be recharged from empty
3 ton unit * 4 pounds of refrigerant = 12 pounds of refrigerant
12 pounds of refrigerant * $650/30 pounds= $260 for an entirely refill up of your AC unit
(amount of refrigerant per cylinder is 30 pounds)
Disclaimer:
As always, we advise that you should get particularly specifications of your machine before refilling up Freon for it. In deed, we don’t recommend you refill up Freon for your machine. Danger of fill the AC unit with refrigerant was mentioned in this post recharging window air conditioning unit. In addition, you might encounter with the local law to use of refrigerants or with the inner working of an AC.

Notably, the cost will be nearly at the cost of your contractor. But that doesn’t include the cost of a service charge. In fact, you should contact a trusted HVAC service, such as ACS Absolute Comfort Same day Air conditioning AC HVAC service in Katy Texas.

Why Doesn’t My Air Conditioner Blow Cold Air?

This problem is actually more common than you may think. Calling an HVAC technician right away is important to prevent the issue from becoming more serious. Common reasons why air conditioners don’t get cold enough are:

  • Dirty air filters: Dirty filters will block airflow, resulting in a lower than normal flow of cool conditioned air back into your home. Check your air filters and replace them if they appear to be too dirty. Check out our infographic at the bottom of the page to learn more cooling tips like this!

  • Faulty parts: if your air conditioner isn’t blowing cold air, the condenser or compressor could be malfunctioning. The condenser works by removing the heat from the air, so a condenser that is working properly will be blowing warm air outside and returning cool air back into the home. The compressor is responsible for pushing cold air from the condenser to the vent. If the air blowing from the vent is not cold, the compressor may be malfunctioning or misaligned.

  • Electrical issues: Electrical problems can cause your air conditioner to work poorly or even not at all. Some potential electrical issues include a malfunctioning thermostat, failed sensors, corroded contacts or connectors, broken or shorted wires, and defective breakers. Diagnosing and fixing any electrical issues should always be done by a professional.

  • Low refrigerant levels: Low (or empty) refrigerant is a common reason air conditioners don’t blow cold air. If your system is out of coolant, it cannot remove heat from the air, so the air circulated in your home is left unconditioned. If refrigerant levels are low, you probably have a leak (refrigerant does not deplete or go bad over time). To permanently fix the problem, the leak must be discovered and repaired.
It’s important to note that if your air conditioner is getting up there in age and/or experienced more than one or two problems last season, it may be time for replacement.
